We are the James River Film Society!

Welcome! During the 17th James River Film Festival, March 19-25, 2010, we announced that we were changing our name from the Richmond Moving Image Co-op to the James River Film Society. The board and volunteers of our all-volunteer run nonprofit organization made this change after much discussion and debate; we believe it is easier to remember, builds on the success and general awareness of our longest running program, the James River Film Festival, and accurately reflects what we do. We’re a film society: a group of filmmakers, film teachers and film enthusiasts who do our best to present festivals and individual film programs featuring films and filmmakers that you won’t find elsewhere — at least not in Central Virginia. We invite you to join us — make a gift through Network for Good (we’re still listed under RMIC) and become a member of the James River Film Society, volunteer in a variety of ways (visit our Get Involved page for more on that), show your film (there’s a page for that too), and give us your ideas for the kinds of filmmakers and films you want us to bring to Richmond.

So, this is the new home of the James River Film Society. Nose around and help us improve it. A big thanks to former RMIC volunteer coordinator Kirsten McKinney for setting up this site using WordPress. Thanks to Michael Harl for creating a great new James River Film Society logo. and thanks to RMIC board member Jere Kittle for serving as the RMICweb.org webmaster for the past many years. The site is under construction so check back frequently to see what’s new. Or you can sign up for an RSS feed of our new James River Film Journal or follow the James River Film Society on Facebook. For an archive of past RMIC programs, including the James River Film Festival, visit the Richmond Moving Image Co-op.

Stay tuned!
